Abstract

This article examines examples of academic writing education for high school students. There have been implemented through collaboration between Osaka University and Kyoto Prefectural Toba High School. The primary purpose of this collaboration is to make the high school's “inquiry-based studies" more effective. These studies are designed to cultivate students' abilities to learn and think by themselves through proactive learning. To achieve this result, Osaka University professors developed necessary teaching materials and held classes for high school students. The students in those classes reported that they learned what was necessary for research, became more motivated, and gained more self-esteem.
