抄録

マダガスカル沿岸漁民ヴェズの漁撈活動と漁家経済について記載と分析をおこなった。漁法や漁獲物販売の定性的記載,漁撈活動時間や漁獲高の定量的分析などを通じ,以下の点を明らかにした。(1)漁撈活動は,月周期などいくつかの点でサンゴ礁という漁場環境の影響を受けている。(2)漁は「複合世帯」を単位におこなわれ,主に男性によって担われる。「複合世帯」内では,出漁頻度の少ない世帯もほぼ確実に漁獲分配を受け,必要に応じて漁に参加するという柔軟な分業がなされる。(3)多くの漁民は,村から遠く離れた海域へ季節的に出かけてフカヒレやナマコなどの輸出向け海産物を捕獲し,莫大な現金収入を得ている。いっぽうで,村周辺でおこなわれる漁撈は利潤獲得よりむしろ自家消費を目的とする傾向が強い。遠隔地における安定した現金収入により,村周辺での漁撈はかえって自給的な性格を強めているといえる。

This paper describes and analyzes the fishing activities and householdeconomy of Vezo fishermen on the southwestern coast ofMadagascar. Through qualitative data on fishing methods and distributionof harvests, as well as quantitative ones on labor inputs andyields, the following points are clarified. (1) The character of the coralreef as a fishing ground affects the fishing activities in several ways, theform of the monthly fishing cycle for example. (2) Fishing parties oftenconsist of male members of the same "complex household." Whilehouseholds which seldom join the fishing party always share the harvest ,they go fishing when required, thus achieving a flexible division of labor.(3) While many fishermen acquire a large cash income through seasonalcatch of shark fins and sea cucumbers in remote areas, their fishingactivities near the village tend to aim at self-consumption rather thanprofit. It is the stable cash income in remote areas, paradoxically, thathas strengthened the self-sufficient tendency of fishing near the village.
