Hegel’s "Phenomenology of Sprit" (1807) was called a "science of the experience of the consciousness" at first. However we would misunderstand the true meaning of it if we inferred from this fact that it would go with the stream of modern consciousness philosophies, which had been inherited from Descartes to Kant. In this paper I would like to correct this misunderstanding and to point out the real uniqueness and significance of Hegel’s "self-consciousness" by making strict interpretation of "B Chapter, Self-Consciousness", which Hegel himself pointed to as its turning point.
