Abstract
Panhypopituitarism is due to postpartum thrombosis of sinuses and ischemic infarction and necrosis of the pituitary gland, usually as a result of obstetric hemorrhage and shock that occur at term. The complete concept of the syndrome was well reviewed by Sheehan in 1937. If a woman suffers severe hemorrhage, collapse, or shock at the time of delivery or during the early postpartum period, she should be observed closely for several months for subsequent signs and symptoms indicating pituitary necrosis. If both the anterior and posterior lobes are involved and the gonadotrophins, thyrotropin, and corticotrophin are all absent, the appropriate descriptive term is "panhypopituitarism". Usually the clinical history is sufficient to make the diagnosis. Because the extent of pituitary necrosis in Sheehan's syndrome is highly variable, the clinical features may be few and involve only partial insuffciency of only one or two hormones. We described the clinical features especially and presented our experienced cases with this syndrome.
