Purpose : In order to make clear the relationship between daily habits, subjective health status, and a feeling of satisfaction with daily living in nursing students. Objects : Cooperative first-year and second-year female students who attend a school of nursing or junior college, after informed consent for this study. Method : The health questionnaire used for the survey was the Okayama Medical Index (OMI), which is considered to be highly reliable for the Cronbach's alphas, reliability coefficients based on internal consistency We examined the relationship between daily habits and health status, measured by the index of daily habits, such as desirable health practice, diet, and feeling of satisfaction. Results : 78.8% of self-reported questionnaires were collected, and the Cronbach's alphas of the each subscale showed over 0.6 The results obtained were as follows; 1) No significant difference was observed in health habits among schools. By making a comparison between first-year students and second-year students, it became clear that they had different daily habits in terms of sleeping hours, part-time work, exercise, consumption alcohol, and appropriate weight However, there was no distinction on health status. 2) Students with desirable daily habits on diet, smoking, sleeping time, and exercise had fewer condition complaints of health status than students with undesirable ones. 3) Students who got higher scores on a feeling of satisfaction with daily habits had a smaller number of complaints of health status than students with lower scores. 4) From the viewpoint of the relationship between factors, groups with high scores for indexes of daily habits, diet, and a feeling of satisfaction, maintained good health status. Notedly, it was observed that all indexes regarding a feeling of satisfaction with daily habits and health status are correlated. Discussion : Utilizing 7 items of health habits from Breslow's study as a score of daily habits, this survey of nursing students on the relationship between daily habits and health status revealed that those who have desirable lifestyles enjoy better health with fewer complaints. It was the same results as those observed in leading investigations Especially, students with strong feeling of satisfaction, had fewer complaints, and the relationship was seen between a feeling of satisfaction and desirable health practice in end.
