Abstract
This is a basic study on the preference of using cell phones to collect information for pregnancy and delivery. Data was collected by distributing questionnaire to those who attended parental school programs. A total of 155 respondents, including 85 females and 70 males, were asked whether they would prefer using cell phones when they need to collect information for pregnancy and delivery. The most frequently preferred information is "Information on maternal classes" (65.4%), followed by "Information on hospitals through impression of mothers and families", "Information on social welfare system on child raring and bearing", and "Information on child care utensils" (60.8% respectively). The result of Chi-square test indicated that those who had social support to ask for information on pregnancy and delivery were more likely to prefer using cell phones to collect information on "prenatal tests"(p<0.05), "personal experience of delivery"(p<0.01) than their counterparts. On the other hand, those who had internet-accessible personal computers at their home or their work place were less likely to prefer using cell phones to collect information on "hospital facilities" (p<0.01), "hospitals through impression of mothers and families" (p<0.001),"prenatal tests" (p<0.05), "food to avoid eating during pregnancy"(p<0.01), "delivery method" (p<0.05), "baby's growth process" (p<0.05) and "to know how other pregnant mothers control their weight"(p<0.05). The result of this study suggested that those who are rich in experience of using personal computers are likely to know the merit and demerit of using cell phones to collect information, as information provided through cell phone is limited, due to the capacity of data transmitting and browsing.
