Abstract
This paper aims to clarify the way to use tiles and bricks in architectures by Togo Murano. Togo Murano was the representative architect of Japan. Watanabe Memorial Hall in Ube and Memorial Cathedral for World Peace in Hiroshima, his representative works, are the appointed cultural assets, and they were bricked and tiled on exterior walls. In addition, there are many architectures using bricks and tiles in his works, and there is a wide range of variations in the ways of using bricks and tiles in those works. He worked under Setsu Watanabe, an architect who designed in Kansai region, as an architect for 12 years. He was influenced by the experiences in Watanabe Architects and Associates and the tours of inspection abroad. He often designed architectures using design vocabularies he observed abroad as architectural references. They are not reproductions. He extracted elements of designs from references and he used in the unique way.
