Description

The objective of this study is to grasp the mechanical characteristics to compressive loading about the unreinforced brick masonry extracted from the Kyushu University Headquarters Building 1 and 3. Core and prism specimens for the compressive loading test were extracted from the walls of the two unreinforced brick masonry buildings, and were made with the bricks and mortar whose strength were similar to those of the actual masonry structure's components. As a result of the loading tests, some basic mechanical characteristics to compressive loading about the brick masonry were clarified, for instance, compressive strength, stress-strain relations, apparent Young's modulus and so forth. And it was found out that the compressive strength of the actual brick masonry can be affected from the filling condition of the mortar joint.
