Description

We provide a survey on recent studies in axiomatic bargaining theory. As a class of bargaining problems, we consider the following three types: (1) a class of convex problems; (2) a class of non-convex problems; and (3) a class of economic environments in which resource allocation problems are defined. We also propose three categories of normative principles: (1) the principle of equal treatment; (2) the principle of solidarity; and (3) the principle of responsibility and compensation. Based on these categories, we classify the recent axiomatic studies of the three bargaining solutions (the Nash, the Kalai-Smorodinsky, and the egalitarian solutions) by Xu and Yoshihara (2006, 2007) as well as Yoshihara (2003, 2006).
