Description

In Akita Prefecture, the number of school refusal children is increasing yearly, although the people concerned are making various supports. We can often see several trends for school refusal children. As one of them, they have low self-affirmation or self-usefulness. Some scholars point out that the children have few real experiences in the nature, in the society, and so on, so they feel loneliness or anxiety for communication. For this situation, Lifelong Learning Division Akita Prefectural Bureau of Education has begun a program with experience activity. They planned this program for participants to be able to learn how to communicate with others, based on self selection and self-determination at their own pace. And it planned and executed, by using functions of Akita Prefectural Youth Outdoor Learning Center, to the maximum. As a result of this project, we could be checked that participated children had increased their self affirmation. In addition, this result suggests us that an approach by the field of lifelong learning or social education is useful for School Refusal Children.
