Abstract

Around 1950, the church historians advocated the necessity of historical studies and promoted them greatly from that time and continuing from the 1960s through the 1980s. This paper takes up the development of these historical research works, gives an overview of the research that these works subsequently led to, and offers a confirmation of the revised understanding of the Reformation. At the same time, the paper also takes up the problems raised by these research works and considers their meaning and limitations for Reformation research.
