Description
The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 was an epochal event that marked the beginning of the shift in the balance between state and market and the move towards globalization. Despite the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the US, most international leaders supposed that both market liberalization and global integration would prevail and that the future world would be based on a liberal order. However, the recent panic in US and European financial markets after Lehman's collapse suddenly ended the previous era of globalization. Future stabilization and policy adjustments now depend on political debates over the international order and current power shifts.
