Description

Nanoparticles (NPs) are recently attracted due to their unique properties, such as electrical or optical characteristics. However, most of these properties depend on the structure of aggregated NPs as well as the size or size distribution. From the view of this point, many evaluation methods were proposed to know the structure of aggregated NPs. One of their proposal methods is the fractal dimension analysis using the data of the scattered electromagnetic wave from aggregated NPs. In this paper, we examined the fractal dimension analysis using small angles X-ray scattering (SAXS) could be useful to evaluate the structure of aggregated NPs. Samples for the analysis were prepared by adding salt with silica colloid, and their aggregated structures were changed from reaction-limited cluster aggregation to diffusion-limited cluster aggregation. The fractal dimension could be obtained by the scattering data by SAXS with the scaling approach. The surface fractal dimension was almost constant even if the aggregation state was changed. On the other hand, the volume fractal dimension depended on the aggregation state, but this tendency was not same as that in the case of the fractal dimension estimated from the light scattering data.
