Description

The main aim of this paper is to trace the circulation and reception of the film "Wakamonotachi (The Young People)" (Morikawa Tokihisa, 1968) in the period of post Economic growth in Japan, using the Yamamoto Akira Collection. The film has been regarded as a work that symbolizes the rebellion against the "economic priority" trend during the period of high economic growth. While such representational analysis exists, the actual situation of the independent screenings that characterize this film is not sufficiently clear. One of the distinctive features of the Yamamoto Akira Collection is the large number of local materials related to "Wakamonotachi". For example, there are a number of local papers of the circle newspaper that featured the film in Osaka, as well as leaflets of the screening of the film. This thesis analyzes these materials to clarify the actual situation of the screening activities of "Wakamonotachi" in Osaka and considers the nature of the circle culture movement in the post-high growth period.
