Abstract

Nondestructive corrosion state estimation of reinforced concrete using ultra-wideband radar is theoretically investigated. First, a corroded rebar in concrete structure is modeled by a conducting cylinder with inhomogeneous dielectric coating layers and scattered field solution is analytically derived by solving the scattering problem. Next, the radar responses are simulated by using the obtained solution and the possibility of corrosion state estimation using the waveform distortion of the response, in particular the polarization dependency, is examined in detail. It is found from the result that the corrosion state can be estimated by measuring the waveform distortion of the radar response except for the initial stage of corrosion.
