Abstract
Around 1960, Japanese intellectuals experienced the nationwide Security Treaty struggle. During this period, methods to use the experience of the Security Treaty struggle to influence Japanese society became a major ideological issue. Some scholars, most notably Takeuchi Yoshimi, attempted to link the Security Treaty struggle to the reconstruction of Japanese nationalism and developed unique arguments to support it. In this essay, the author will analyze the ideological activities of Takeuchi Yoshi during this period and examine his shortcomings in proposing Asianism and attempting to redefine the Meiji Restoration.
