Description

KYT (hazard prediction training, K: kiken (a hazard in Japanese), Y: yochi (a prediction in Japanese), T: (training)) is one of the most effective tools in road safety education in Japan. In the past, most of the media used for KYT materials were still images with a third-person perspective. On the other hand, with the recent development of virtual reality (VR) technology, it has become possible to create live-action VR teaching materials with a first-person perspective and 360-degree omnidirectional confirmation. However, the sustainability of the educational effect and the effect on changes in traffic behavior have not been clarified. In this study, we conducted an experiment using the VR and photographic materials created by the authors in a previous study. We conducted a questionnaire survey and analyzed the effects on traffic safety awareness before and after traffic safety KYT and traffic safety awareness and behavior change about two months after the education. The results showed no significant difference in the medium-term educational effect on traffic safety awareness among the teaching materials, including the control group. All the teaching materials affected desired behavioral changes during school commuting.
