Abstract
In Early Meiji period, the modern waterwheel was imported to Japan. In order to generate the power from the stream of water efficiently, they had a highly artificial structure. It is suggested that introducing such machines are the process of technical transition from foreign tecnology to Japanese technology. This study traced the process of introducing and spreading of modern waterwheel in Japan. Moreover, two case studies in Ukiha, Kyushu pointed out that modern water wheel adapted to geographic conditions.
