Description
This thesis attempts firstly, to investigate the reason behind the crisis now facing Dot Com companies in Korea, which until very recently had been showing incredible growth, but now many of which are filing for bankruptcy, and secondly to suggest suitable remedies for the ploblem. As Amazon.com has revealed its immobility/inflexibility, the major Dot Com companies have been recently driven towards the threat of crisis and with that anxiety about a possible chain reaction of bankruptcy. The crisis of Dot Com companies is a global phenomenon. Also in Korea, many answers to puestionnaries conducted by managers or newspaper companies are showing recognition of such a crisis. One of the surveys counts the following factors as the reasons behind the crisis: the fall of stock and the raised barriers for entry to the stock market, the loosened morals of the Dot Com companies, the reduced investment of venture capital. Renponses from another survey mentioned the difficulties in raising funds for the Dot Com companies and the antipathy in society at large with the money games that proliferate amongst some companies. But the Dot Com companies’ own responsibility for the crisis they are facing is the most common response. The counter-measues which have now actually been undertaken by the companies involved and the remedies proposed by the Samsung Research Center and others could be summarized as the following: / / 1. The toughening of the capital market and the adjustment of the infrastructure: for example the lowering of registration barriers for the stock market. / 2. The raising of the contents qualities, completion of and the charging of services; creation of the profit model. / 3. Active M&A / 1) M&A with off line companies (for example like manufacturing) / 2) M&A among venture companies/capitalists / 3) The creation of cooperation by the associations of the venture capitalists / 4) The restructuring of the companies through the renewal of managers, entering into the field of transportation, streamlining business and outsourcing. / 5) Branching out into foreign markets, like China, the US or Japan.
