Description

The purpose of this research was to clarify the nursing approach to issues regarding the sexuality of ostomates．Participants in this study were 10 nurses who engaged in stoma care．Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and then examined by means of context analysis．<br> Nurse′s approaches included a “prospective approach,”“reactive approach,”“continuous approach,”and “cooperative approach.”These four approaches were bidirectional：positive and negative,as determined by the following six factors：“taboo against approaching sexual issues,::ranking sexual issues in importance in specific terms of the ostmate,”“lack of interest in sexual issues,”“superficial understanding of sex,”“aversion to sexual issues,”and“whether or not the ostomate raises the issue .”
