Abstract

Fifty years ago, Ozegahara Mire had noticeable areas of bare land due to human trampling, and so to study whether vegetation restoration had taken place, comparison was made of actual vegetation maps from 50 years ago and today for the area near the Nakatashiro crossroads, using the mesh method. It was found that high moor vegetation had increased by 15% and the bare land that had occupied 21% in 1970 had disappeared. The bare land due to the trampling effect has disappeared. It was also discovered that while some parts of the natural moor have been restored, there had been a remarkable expansion of the Myrica gale var. tomentosaand the Osmundastrum cinnamomeum var. fokiense-dominant communities.
