説明

The whole system of knowledge / wisdom, in the 16th century of the West, is supposed to be based upon the conception of “similarity.” This study focuses on the way people of that time would recognize things in the world and comprehend abstract ideas, reading and analyzing Michel Foucault’s texts of The Order of Thing which deals with the epistemological characteristics of three periods: the Renaissance, the Age of Classicism, and the Modern Era. As a consequence, a profound insight of the intellectual world in the European Middle Ages was gained that informs the present discussion of how the sequence of interpretation underlying the relationships between “sign” and “similarity” in their surroundings depends upon the imaginative space of macrocosm and microcosm.
