本研究は大学英語教育における民間オンライン英会話サイトの活用の事例を示す実践報告である。筆者は演習（ゼミ）において，国際社会問題にもとづくディスカッション，プレゼンテーション，タスクといった，英語を用いた発信型の指導の一貫として，授業外のオンライン英会話を長期的に取り入れてきた。とりわけ，学習者が海外在住の英語話者（非英語母語話者）に毎週の話題について発問をする活動に焦点を当て，１年間にわたる導入がスピーキング力，異文化受容力にどのような影響を及ぼしたかを探った。その結果，スピーキングテストでは事前・事後間でプラスの効果，国際共通語としての英語への態度を測る質問と個別インタビューデータから，多様な英語を許容する寛容な態度への変容が観察された。オンライン英会話による英語運用能力向上の実感や英語を通して多様な英語のあり方，物事の考え方に触れる豊かな異文化理解の機会が得られていることが要因として示された。

Practical use of a commercial online English conversation site in university EFL (English as a foreign language) instruction in Japan is shown in this paper. Interviewing a non-native English speaker/instructor through the site regularly throughout a year played a crucial role in reinforcing active learning seminar work with its focus on global and social issues. The effects of the use of the site were examined through pre- and post-speaking tests, a questionnaire on the attitudes toward EIL (English as an International language) (Nakamura, Lee and Lee, 2018) and semi-structured individual interviews. The results indicated that speaking skills improved to some extent and tolerant attitudes toward variations of English were observed. Abundant opportunities for cross-cultural communication with EIL may have nurtured such positive effects.
