Abstract

This article examines the practice of teaching French at Kyoto University from 1949 to the 21st century, and identifies the values of this evolution. Shortly after the opening of Kyoto University under the new regime, French teachers began to develop their own teaching materials, continuing their efforts to this day with the Manuel pratique de langue française, a grammar book. In parallel to this textbook, which inherited the educational culture of the higher secondary school of the old regime, practical French teaching based on audio-visual methodology was carried out in LL classes from the 1960s onwards, which led to the development of the CALL French grammar in the 1990s.
