• Reconstructing mixed needle and broad-leaved forest with a dynamic vegetation model

抄録

A dynamic vegetation model was adapted to a mixed forest in Hokkaido, the northernmost mainland of Japan, which is located within a transition zone between cool-temperate and sub-boreal forest ecosystems. Elevation and the topographical index were correlated with tree biomass and the percentage of needle-leaved trees in this forest, and the adapted model roughly reconstructed this pattern. In the simulation, biomass increased as a single peak curve with simulation year, while a fraction of the conifers increased until the end of 200 simulation years. The 75-year simulated forest was most comparable to the adapted forest. The model also reconstructed a reasonable succession pattern based on temperature and soil moisture. However, the model did not reconstruct the geographical distribution of the fraction of needle broad-leaved forests at the scale of Hokkaido, demonstrating that more work is required to improve the model.
