Abstract

A 77-year-old woman visited our hospital with a complaint of melena. Blood examination at the first visit showed severe anemia with Hb of 6.5 g/dL, and a blood transfusion was performed. Colonoscopy showed a submucosal tumor with an ulcer at the transverse colon. A biopsy at the ulcer of the tumor was performed, but no pathological diagnosis could be made. Endoscopic resection was difficult, since the tumor was large. Considering the possibility of malignant tumor, a laparoscopic right hemicolectomy with lymph node dissection was performed. Histopathological examination of the tumor showed a ganglioneuroma. Postoperative examination showed that the patient did not have multiple endocrine neoplasia or neurofibromatosis type I, and that the tumor was a solitary ganglioneuroma at the colon.
