Abstract

The regular packing models (RPMs), the theoretical models with the regular packing structures, have been developed to readily estimate the soil-water characteristic curves (SWCCs) using the basic soil information, e.g., the grain-size distribution. Each RPM has different pore air entry value (PAEV) models, representing the critical suction of air entering the saturated pore. However, the effect of each PAEV model on SWCCs is still unclear. In this study, we constructed four RPMs with different PAEV models, and compared SWCCs estimated by each RPM. It is found that the PAEV models affect the slope of the SWCCs as well as the specimen-scale air entry values.
