Abstract

Shiga Prefecture has Lake Biwa. This Lake is biggest lake in Japan. The Kinki region supplies some 14 million of its population of 20 million with water from Lake Biwa. Lake Biwa is a tectonic lake. The lake was formed by repeated fault activity (such as a large earthquake). There is spring water at the bottom of Lake Biwa. In the western part of Lake Biwa, there are the the Biwako-seigan fault and the Hanaore Fault. The western part of Lake Biwa is a resort area that is easily accessible from the Kansai region. Many tourists are visiting because of the hot springs and water culture. Previously, many foreigners visited. It is a region with strong interest from home and abroad.
