The onion skin is a waste at cooking, but is a natural dye. Fabric dyed with onion skin can be changed in color by mordant, easily. It is used in home economics as a teaching material that allows students to easily the fun of dyeing. The more colors we get, the more attractive the material will be. In this study, we investigated the effect of pretreatment with soymilk, tannic acid, or green tea, on a white fabric for dyeing, in order to increase color variation. The dyed fabrics was evaluated visually and analyzed using a spectrophotometer NF333( Nippon Denshoku), to determine the K/S value. The colors of the CIE L*a*b* color system were also examined. As a result, it was found that, by dyeing the soymilk-pretreated fabric that had been dried indoors, a dyed fabric with increased redness could be obtained. The 50cm square table napkin was dyed with soymilk-pretreated fabric for home economics teaching materials. However, color irregularities appeared in the dyed fabric, so the method needs to be further studied.
