The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the design concept and actual states of use around a dwelling unit in the public housing complex of Kumamoto Artpolis. This analysis is based on quantitative evalutions of self-expressing elements and spilling-out elements around a terrace in Shinchi-C housing complex and Ryujyabira housing complex. In these housing complexes, we could find a blind screen and a cleared up terrace as an outcome of the inhabitants awareness. The finding is a connection between the use around a terrace and the building composition such as a staircase and the temace that designed by architect.
