説明

How children recognize disability? How does that recognition change with the development and learning of the children? In this paper, in order to clarify development of disability recognition in children, we conducted an interview survey with children aged 7 to 12. In conducting the survey, questions regarding disabilities were set following the research method of Toshitaka TAMARU, who studies the development of children’s social awareness. By examining the dialogue process between the investigator and the children regarding the item, we are trying to approach the children’s recognition of “disability”. As a result of the survey, 80% of the second graders of elementary school also mentioned the word “disability”, and all the children in the fourth grade answered that they had “heard”. It became clear that even if limited to ”know”, it will be 80% in the fourth grade. Furthermore, an analysis of children's speech suggests that their perceptions of disability have different characteristics than those of adults, and that they change significantly with the learning and development of children in elementary school.
