Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Third Eyelid in a Cat

Abstract

<p>An 11-year-old female cat weighing 3.3 kg presented with hemorrhages from a small nodule on the free edge of the left third eyelid. As the nodule had rapidly expanded and was suspected as a malignant tumor, it was removed surgically 60 days later using a semiconductor laser scalpel. The nodule, oval in shape, was 9 mm in length and 4 mm in maximum width. Histopathologically, the nodule was diagnosed as squamous cell carcinoma. Postoperatively, toceranib was administered orally every other day from day 16 to day 76 and β-glucan was administered daily since the early stage of the presentation until day 161. The cat remained in good condition and tumor-free on postoperative day 578.</p>
