Abstract

In Hirata Village, Fukushima Prefecture, "bridge self-maintenance" was established and implemented, in which citizens collaborate to conduct simple inspections of bridges and clean up around drainage basins. The citizens will record deterioration and damage on the bridge surface that occur between periodic inspections, as well as ensure drainage functions, leading to preventive maintenance. In establishing the bridge self-maintenance by citizen collaboration, we also developed human resources which understand the necessity of the activities, and which can actively and voluntarily engage in bridge self-maintenance. From the results of the implementation of the bridge self-maintenance model based on citizen collaboration and human resource cultivation in various regions, we analyzed the trends in the participants in bridge self-maintenance in each region. Furthermore, we were able to clarify the role of each activity in the four categories of this model, according to the high and low scores of citizen cooperation, human resource cultivation, and maintenance management.
