Abstract

The U.S. presidential library system, which has been in place since the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library opened in 1941, is coming to an end. The Obama Presidential Center (OPC), scheduled to open in 2025, will not have a presidential library managed by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), but only a museum operated by the Obama Foundation, while Obama archival documents will be delivered electronically from NARA’s data center. However, this would not solve any of the problems that NARA is currently facing, and it could also destroy the presidential library system that has sustained American democracy.
