Abstract

<p>This study conducted a numerical analysis in order to clarfy the effect of train/bridge dynamic interaction on the dynamic response of steel and composite bridge with small masses. The result revealed that the resonance velocity decreased with decreasing bridge/train mass ratio and the impact factor at resonance decreased with decreasing stiffness and bridge/train mass ratio; however, the effects of stiffness and the mass ratio of bridge were small when the resonance phenomenon did not occur. The dynamic response of vehicles increases due to the deflection shape and resonance of the bridge. The effect of resonance decreases as the span of the bridge increases. Furthermore, for a mass ratio equivalent to an open-deck steel girder, the dynamic interaction effects reduced the dominant frequency of the bridge by 10% and the impact factor at resonance by 90%.</p>
