Abstract
type:Article
Tango, the northern district of Kyoto Prefecture, is famous for its silk crêpe, which has been woven by small manufacturers and peasants. During the first half of 1960's, many other peasants began to weave material for "kimono" and "obi" at their dwellings under contract with merchants of Nishijin. This raised income of the new peasant-weavers, but, hindered at least for a while, agricultural development of the district.
