カリキュラム内容としてのDiscipline,あるいはDiscipline-centered Curriculumということが主張され,そしてまた,それらへの批判的検討と吟味が行なわれて以来,すでに久しい。70年代のアメリカにおけるこれらのカリキュラム研究の推移と動向については,本紀要,第2報(1975),第3報(1978)において一定の分析と検討を加えてきたところである。しかしながら、カリキュラム内容としてのDisciplineとは,カリキュラムの内容構成をいかなる視点と方法において行なうのかという,カリキュラム研究の最も本質的な課題と深く結びついている。本稿では,Disciplineをカリキュラム内容構成の方法論という視点からあらためてとらえなおし,Disciplineの提起とそれに対する批判が,今日のカリキュラム研究に何をもたらしているのかを総括的に検討し,今後のカリキュラム研究の課題と方向を明らかにしょうとした。
The most important problem in the curriculum field today is the one how to construct the curriculum content corresponding the contemporary changing social trends. Roughly speaking, this problematic situation has been brought about through the critical reflection upon the so-called discipline-centered curriculum. The auther's aim in this article is to grasp the essential meanings of the 'discipline' and draw out its fundamental value to the curriculum theory. The auther tries to define the 'discipline' as the structure of concepts including the function of inquiry and dynamism. According to such definition, the essential significance of the 'discipline' in the curriculum theory is that it suggests the methodological viewpoint on how to organize and construct the curriculum content. One of most serious criticisms of the 'discipline' is that the 'discipline' has often slighted or ignored the practical relevances to the everyday concerns and problems such as war and peace, poverty and violence, love and friendship. But it must be said that these critical considerations on the 'discipline' play a role of mediation to identify the methodological aspects of the 'discipline' concerning the curriculum construction and that these criticisms are useful to make clear the essential features of the 'discipline'. At present the focus on the curriculum reform is how to get the practical relevance of the curriculum content, and many efforts are being made to develop such a curriculum. But the fruitful way to achieve such a curriculum reform depends upon the changing of the methodology of curriculum construction from theoretical to practical approach. The practical approach which demands the re-examination on the basic features of the methods or arts concerning the curriculum construction, implies the renewal and further investigation of the 'discipline'.
