In order to obtain useful information for physical education teachers at university, mood before and after futsal class was examined and variables affecting changes in mood were identified using qualitative and quantitative analyses. The participants in the study comprised 48 university students, 24 males and 24 females, ranging in age from 18 to 28 years (M=18.5, SD=1.53). The students attended futsal class 14 times as a required subject. A mood state checklist was administered before and after five classes, and variables that could potentially cause mood changes were examined by use of a questionnaire, free-answer question, and semi-structured interview. The results showed enhanced states of pleasure, enjoyment, and satisfaction and a reduced state of displeasure after the futsal classes. Concerning the variables associated with mood change, the atmosphere of the team, amount of exercise, quality of the plays, and teamwork had a greater effect on mood change in the futsal class.
