Description

Microaggressions are words or actions, with or without malice, that make the recipient feel uncomfortable or hurt. Compared to discriminatory behavior with apparent malice, they are more difficult to deal with because they are not malicious or hard to see. In this paper, I'll discuss the problem of microaggressions from visitors to staff that occur daily at Upopoy as a case study. In Section 1, I'll describe the institution of Upopoy so that it will help to imagine what kind of environment microaggressions are occurring at Upopoy. Section 2 describes the author's ethnic identity. Section 3 defines microaggression, which is the keyword of this paper. Section 4 gives examples of microaggression from visitors to staff at Upopoy and points out the dimensions of the problem. Section 5 summarizes the author's thoughts on what we can do to prevent microaggressions.
