Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to discuss how family studies will change by visualizing the presence of LGBTQ+. The conclusions are as follows: (1) From now on, for family research, a SOGI-sensitive perspective will become indispensable, and SOGI mainstreaming will be required, (2) These are big changes for anyone who studies the family. A SOGI-sensitive perspective is one that overcomes heterosexism and cisgenderism. In order to overcome them, the efforts and experiences of women’s studies and men’s studies in gender studies can be useful. With LGBTQ+ family centering, it has become clear that it is essential to review the concepts, terminology, and survey design that have been taken for granted in family research. Also, the need for researchers to self-reflect on their unconscious heterosexism and cisgenderism is stressed.
