Abstract
The ritual sword strap called emusat in the Ainu dialect of Hokkaido, is used by Ainu men to wear a sword during rituals. The belt is woven with bark fibers and cotton threads in intricate geometric patterns, and the tassels are decorated with a wide variety of fabrics and embroidery. In this study, the belt part was defined as a textile and classified as such. The results cleared that various advanced weaving techniques were used.
