Description
Mucins are glycoproteins present in almost all animals and many microbes as the main component of mucus. Mucins have a lubrication role into epithelial cells. The sliding friction of nitrile butadiene rubber was measured as an experimental model for evaluating the friction properties of a mucin suspension. Their starting friction coefficients were obtained from a simple inclination method using an inclined board made of various roughening polymer boards (acrylic, polyethylene, polystyrene, polyethylene terephthalate, polycarbonate, polyvinyl alcohol, polypropylene), where the friction coefficient was defined by the angle at which a nitrile butadiene rubber began to slide down. The influence of setting roughening polymer board materials on friction property was also evaluated. Marked differences in friction were found depending on the concentration of Mucin suspension. By measuring the contact angle, the addition of the wet properties to the surface of polymers was shown in the mucin suspension.
