Abstract
The purpose of this study is to provide a historical and critical reference point for the relationship between the Kyoto Institute for the Blind and Deaf-Mute, which opened in 1878, and the people surrounding it, by defining “mutual support” as a relationship of mutual assistance. As a result, it is considered that the relationship was established because the new education of blindness and mute education could not be achieved in a single school. The materials have also been documented and widely used in the present day to continue to promote intellectual exchange within and outside the school.
