Description
In this study, when word "seasons" and the word and expression of "a sense of seasons" ,which are major concepts in Japanese culture, were appeared in 34 home economics textbooks from 1872 to 1906 (Meiji era). The results are as follows. The word "seasons" first appeared in 1883. After 1897, the word "seasons" appeared in all five textbooks examined. The term "a sense of seasons" did not appear. However, expressions related to "a sense of seasons" began to appear in the 1890s and were used in the context of women's refinement and elegance in companionship.
