Abstract

<p> A basic process for introducing topology optimization into seismic design of railway structures is proposed. In the proposed method, seismic design of structures is first carried out based on the current general method. Then, several candidates of structural topology are created by topology optimization, and range of pareto-optimal solutions is narrowed down in terms of cost and performance. Finally, designers select the optimal structural topology from the narrowed range of the solutions based on budget, constructability, and maintainability. In order to confirm the effectiveness of the method, the proposed method was applied to the concrete pier with the column height of 6m. As a result, it is confirmed that the several structural topology can be obtained as the pareto-optimal solutions, and that the structural topology selected from the range of the solutions has advantages in terms of performance and cost compared with the conventional one.</p>
