<p>Biomass resources are promising alternative resources to fossil fuels that can contribute to global warming mitigation. High water content biomass is a useful renewable energy resource and contribute to diversification of energy supply sources and increase the stability of energy supply. However, it is necessary to efficiently reduce the water content to a level that it can be practically used as fuel. In this study, we focused on the heat conversion efficiency of the dryer and the COP of the heat pump in the fuel conversion system using sewage sludge as a biomass with high water content. The energy balance and CO2 emissions of the fuel conversion system have been evaluated. The dryer efficiency of about 30% is required for energy recovery with the COP of 3.5. The dryer efficiency would need to be about 70% for energy balance of 3, requiring even more efficient drying. In the case of COP of 6.5, The CO2 reduction potential of 138.3 kg-CO2 is indicated.</p>
