Abstract

Screening method of hazardous heavy metal elements by energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) spectrometry is wildly used in automobile and electronic device inspection, provided by ELV and RoHS guidelines. However, food analysis, for example, screening analysis of cadmium in rice becomes a hardest challenge because the restricted concentration of cadmium in rice is much smaller than that of the ELV and RoHS regulations, and is about comparable to the lower limit of detection for EDXRF instruments. In this report, we provide a new solution for EDXRF screening analysis in foods, which is derived along the screening analysis of radioactive cesium in foods. The validity of this method was verified through the analysis on cadmium in rice
