Consideration of the classes which are required in the “area” for the contents of childhood care and education

<p>In accordance with the revision of the Educational Personnel License Law and its Enforcement Regulations, “subjects related to teaching methods in the area and Contents of childcare and education” were established in the teaching curriculum for kindergarten teachers from the 2019 school year.</p><p>Our university starts introducing new courses for students enrolling in the 2023 school year and they include “Children and health,” “Children and relationships,” “Children and the environment,” “Children and Languages” and “Children and Expression.” The purpose of this study is to take the opportunity of this revision to review and improve classes related to the previous areas.</p><p>As a clue to this, we conducted a questionnaire survey on the content of classes related to these areas among graduates of our university to determine the necessity from the standpoint of nursery school and kindergarten teachers. According to the results, the inexperienced teachers think various subjects especially technical ones are necessary and their needs differ depends on children’s age whom they are taking care of. In addition to this, we understand from free comments that they seek knowledge and skill regards to the nursery plan and nursery care. Based on these results, the teachers in charge of each class considered the issues.</p>
