Abstract

This paper examines which method is most effective in learning English when compared to VR, smartphone apps, and conversing with people in English. The participants in the experiment are university students who have planned to study abroad and voluntarily participates in the study with the goal of improving their English skills within one month before their study abroad. The results revealed that each method has its advantages and disadvantages, and it is difficult to say which type of learning environment is best for the participants. In addition, it became clear that even if one has a clear goal, it is difficult to maintain motivation to study English and to continue to study in a scheduled basis. In this paper, we consider the future of English education in view of the incredible progress of AI and ICT tools.
