Abstract
AK-disc is the standard name for broadcast-only records used by the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (= NIPPON HOSO KYOKAI) for radio broadcasts in the 1940s. The name is taken from the Japan Broadcasting Corporation’s call sign “JOAK”. Note that AK was also used as the prefix for educational records issued by Nippon Columbia after the war, but this has nothing to do with AK records for radio broadcasting, and it is necessary to distinguish between them. This article examines the process by which the AK board was created, its operation, and the correlation between its creation time and broadcast date.
